Best Beauty Products for Women in Their 40s: What I Repurchase Again and Again
If you're looking for beauty products that genuinely earn a place in your routine, these are the products I've repurchased again and again in my 40s. From skincare for sensitive, rosacea-prone skin to everyday makeup, hair and body care favourites, these are the products I continue to reach for long after the excitement of a new launch has faded.
One of the biggest shifts I've noticed as I've gotten older is that I'm far less interested in trying everything.
In my twenties, I loved discovering new products. Every magazine recommendation, every beauty award winner, every exciting launch seemed worth trying.
These days, I care much more about what I finish (which is why this post features my empties or things I’m close to finishing).
Partly because I have rosacea and sensitive skin, and partly because experience has taught me that consistency usually beats novelty.
I've had rosacea for around 12 years and over that time I've worked closely with a dermatologist to find products that support my skin rather than overwhelm it. The result is a routine that's much simpler than it once was.
The products below aren't necessarily the newest or trendiest products on the market.
They're simply products I've emptied, repurchased, and continued reaching for.
To me, that's probably the highest compliment I can give any beauty product.
Skincare:
Sensatia Gentle Rejuvenating Pomegranate Cleansing Oil
A beautiful cleansing oil I first discovered in Bali. Gentle, effective, and one I've happily repurchased multiple times. It’s never flared my skin once and is great at removing make-up.
ProPaira Skin Defence Serum 10% Niacinamide
This was originally recommended by my dermatologist and remains one of the most consistent products in my routine.
Radical Skincare Express Delivery Enzyme Peel
I've been using this for close to a decade now. If I had to create a shortlist of products I've recommended most over the years, this would be on it.
It leaves my skin feeling smoother, brighter and refreshed without aggravating my rosacea.
Makeup:
Merit Beauty Foundation Stick & Lip Gloss
Easy, understated makeup is very much my style these days and Merit does that beautifully. I love ‘The Minimalist’ and the Tinted Lip oil.
Mecca Cosmetica In A Good Light Face Tint SPF 30
Hydrating, lightweight and one of the products I reach for most often. I use this under my foundation, it’s light and doesn’t aggravate my skin.
Smashbox x Becca Under Eye Corrector
A more recent discovery but one that's quickly earned a permanent place in my makeup bag. Its light and not caked at all - great for under eyes.
Tatcha Camellia Gold Spun Lip Balm
Possibly the most nourishing lip balm I've ever used. I think I'm on my third one.
Eye of Horus Second Skin Foundation & Eyeshadow
I've used Eye of Horus products for years and continue to repurchase both the foundation and eyeshadows. I use the Second skin foundation and I use their eyeshadow palette and they have a great blusher/bronzer combo.
Hair
L'Oréal Paris Magic Retouch Instant Root Concealer Spray
An absolute staple between hair appointments.
Affordable, effective and surprisingly resilient through workouts, long walks and everyday life. I have tried A LOT of these root touch up sprays and powders. This is the best one I’ve found. I ran 8km’s whilst having this in and it didn’t run at all.
Body
Aromatherapy Associates Body Oils
These have been part of my routine for years.
Luxurious without feeling excessive, beautifully scented and consistently nourishing. It makes my morning shower feel special, my mum is also an advocate.
The Herb Farm Ylang Ylang & Orange Deodorant Paste
Natural deodorants can be hit or miss, especially if you have sensitive skin.
This is the best one I've found so far. The smell is lovely and it genuinely does work.
Final Thoughts
I think there's something reassuring about finding products you can rely on.
Not because they're perfect, but because they remove one more decision from your day.
At this stage of life, I'm less interested in accumulating more products and more interested in finding the things that quietly work.
These are some of mine.
