Choc Chip Oat Clusters
Crunchy • simple • great for snacking
These oat clusters are one of the easiest things to make when you want something sweet but still nourishing.
They sit somewhere between a granola bar and a crunchy snack. The oats bake until golden, the nut butter brings everything together, and the little pockets of chocolate make them feel like a treat.
I like making a batch to keep in a jar for the week. They’re great sprinkled over yoghurt, added to smoothie bowls, or simply eaten as a snack with a cup of tea.
The mixture is very forgiving too. You can swap the nut butter, adjust the sweetness, or add a few extra seeds depending on what you have in the cupboard.
Makes
A jar of clusters
Ingredients
2 cups rolled oats
½ cup nut butter (almond, peanut or cashew)
¼ cup honey or maple syrup
¼ cup slivered almonds
2 tbsp sunflower seeds
2 tbsp chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate
Optional:
1 tsp cinnamon or vanilla extract
Method
1. Prepare the oven
Preheat the oven to 175°C.
Line a 20 x 20 cm baking tin with baking paper.
2. Mix the ingredients
In a large bowl combine the oats, nut butter, honey or maple syrup, slivered almonds, sunflower seeds and chocolate chips.
If using, stir through the cinnamon or vanilla extract.
Mix until everything is well coated and evenly combined.
3. Press into the tin
Transfer the mixture to the lined baking tin.
Press it down firmly so it forms a compact layer. This helps the clusters hold together once baked.
4. Bake
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until lightly golden.
5. Cool and break into clusters
Allow the mixture to cool completely in the tin.
Once cooled, break it into clusters.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for several days.
They’re delicious sprinkled over yoghurt, added to smoothie bowls, or eaten straight from the jar as a quick snack.
If you prefer more of a bar texture, simply add a little extra nut butter or honey to the mixture before baking.
Mindful Moment
Snacks like this are a good reminder that nourishing food does not have to be complicated.
A handful of oats, a spoon of nut butter, a little sweetness, and something crunchy. Simple ingredients that come together to make something satisfying.
When you reach for one, pause for a moment. Notice the texture, the warmth of the oats, the little pockets of chocolate.
Mindful eating often begins with something as small as paying attention to the first bite.
