Smoothie Packs (Freezer Friendly)
Smoothie packs are one of the small systems I rely on to make busy mornings feel a little gentler.
Rather than reaching into the fridge for half a dozen different ingredients, I prepare everything in advance and freeze it in individual portions. When I want breakfast, all I need to do is empty a pack into the blender, add almond milk and a little water, and it's ready in a couple of minutes.
It's not about making breakfast perfect.
It's about making it easier to nourish yourself, even on the busiest days.
This is one of the practical systems from my Mindful Meal Prep System, where I focus on preparing the foundations that make everyday cooking and eating feel calmer, more organised and less overwhelming.
Makes
As many smoothie packs as you'd like.
What to Include
There isn't a single recipe here. Think of this as a flexible template that you can adapt to your own tastes. I add the following into a sandwich bag ready for the freezer. I try and use silicone bags that are re-usable as I’m trying to cut down on single use plastics.
Fruit
Choose some fruit that you like. I usually add one or two of the following:
0.5-1 cup of:
Banana
Mango
Mixed berries
Pineapple
Fresh or frozen both work well.
Greens
0.5-1 cup of:
Fresh or frozen spinach
Kale
Any other greens you like
Healthy Fats
¼ avocado, or
handful of Nuts, or
1 tbspPeanut butter
Fibre
1 - 2 tbsp Rolled oats
1-2 tsp Chia seeds
Optional Extras
scoop of Protein powder and/or,
1 tbsp Ground flaxseed and/or
1 tsp Maca powder and/or
I usually make around 5 single serve smoothie packs and then put them in the freezer. If you know you’ll be making two or more smoothies at once just double or triple the size depending on your serving preferences!
When You're Ready to Blend
Add one smoothie pack to your blender along with:
Almond milk (or your preferred milk)
A splash of water
Optional honey or maple syrup if you'd like a little extra sweetness
Blend until smooth and creamy.
Notes
Store the smoothie packs flat in the freezer so they take up less space.
Label them if you've made different flavour combinations.
Using frozen fruit creates a thicker smoothie, while fresh fruit gives a slightly lighter texture.
A Reflection
I've found that the hardest part of eating well is rarely knowing what to eat.
It's having enough time and energy to prepare it when life feels full.
Small systems like smoothie packs don't solve everything.
But they remove one decision.
They create one less barrier.
And sometimes that's all we need to make nourishing ourselves feel possible.
